Vishuddha (Throat Chakra) Balancing Smoothie

Vishuddha, also known as the 5th or throat chakra, is the energetic power center located in the throat. This chakra is responsible for communication with oneself and others, finding a voice, and pure expression. When it is open and balanced, one is able to speak their truth with clarity, while also being able to listen to others with openness. When it is blocked or closed, one may feel anxious or depressed, and unable to articulate such feelings. It can also result in an inability or fear of speaking up, talking to others, expressing opinions, or defending oneself. Inversely, when this chakra is hyperactive, one may talk or gossip excessively, ramble without a clear point or interrupt others while speaking. Imbalances in either direction may manifest in the physical body as thyroid issues, a sore throat, a sinus infection, or tight shoulders. Balancing this chakra is essential to the proper function of the energetic and spiritual body, as it facilitates and integrates the expression of the lower and higher chakras.

Inspiration

Not to be overly witchy woo-woo, but food plays such a vital impact on our daily function and it is so important to be mindful of what we are consuming. Food is the magic, as well as the medicine. Our body is the transient home of the soul and we must treat it well so it will treat the soul well in return. It’s that easy, and balancing the flow of energy in the physical and spiritual body through conscious effort and eating habits is totally possible.

What is a chakra?

As conscious beings, we possess energy centers, or chakras, that help to absorb prana and life force from the cosmos. When these centers are blocked or out of alignment, energy cannot flow freely, and the balance of our spiritual self cannot reach its full potential. Therefore, purifying each chakra is essential to allowing the full functionality of our highest selves and true potential.

We possess many energy centers throughout the body, but there are seven main ones. This post focuses on the 5th chakra, Vishuddha. Click here if you want to learn more about balancing Vishuddha.

Vishuddha

Vishuddha is associated with the color blue, as this color symbolizes calmness, healing, and purity. Eating foods that contain the color blue may help to balance this chakra, therefore, this smoothie is made from ingredients such as blueberries, blackberries, and blue spirulina.

Vishuddha is also associated with the element of ether, symbolizing how the true self and authentic voice exists in an empty space beyond the cluttered thoughts of the mind.

Since ether is considered to be a cold element, eating cooling foods may help balance this chakra. This smoothie is full of cooling foods such as bananas, water, berries, blue spirulina, and hemp seeds. Other cooling foods that may help to balance this chakra include but are not limited to raspberries, melons, leafy greens, and oats. What is blue spirulina?

Spirulina is a bluish-green cyanobacterium or algae, that was discovered by the Aztecs, which they called tecuitlatl. Spirulina contains a phytochemical called phycocyanin, which gives spirulina a deep green color with a bluish hue. Blue spirulina is then made by extracting the phycocyanin from the algae, resulting in a powder that is a rich blue color. Nutritionally, this food is rich in B vitamins, chlorophyll, iron, antioxidants, and protein. In fact, about 60% of the composition of spirulina is protein!
