Rich, fudgy and chocolatey goodness – the ultimate decadence without the refined sugar or gluten!

Here’s what you’ll need:

Cacao Powder: they wouldn’t be brownies without chocolate! You can use regular cocoa powder if you’d like, but I prefer cacao powder considering it has a higher nutritional content and is slightly less processed. To read more about the difference between cacao and cocoa, click here.
Almond Flour: to keep them soft, moist, and rich! Any gluten-free flour should work here and I’ve tested this recipe with many different kinds. Brown rice flour works great here, as well.
Ground Flaxseed: to help bind everything together.
Pitted Dates: to provide sweetness and fiber! These really are the star of the show, here.
Walnuts: to provide richness. Feel free to swap for almonds or cashews.
Plant-Based Milk: to aid the blending process and keep the brownies moist!
Apple Cider Vinegar: to give the brownies a little lift! This acidic liquid is needed to react with the baking soda to help leaven and lift the brownies.
Baking Soda: the magical leavening agent!

How to make Date Sweetened Brownies
Start off by preheating your oven to 350°.
In a large bowl, combine the dry ingredients, which consist of cacao powder, almond flour, ground flaxseed, and baking powder. Whisk everything together until evenly combined.
Next, whip out your blender and add the remaining ingredients: pitted dates, walnuts, plant-based milk, and apple cider vinegar. Blend until smooth and creamy. This may take a couple of minutes depending on the power of your blender.
Pour the contents from the blender into the bowl of dry ingredients. Fold everything together until it has been evenly combined, making sure to get to the bottom of the bowl where excess dry ingredients may be hiding.

Once everything is evenly mixed, add the batter to a greased 9×9 baking dish and bake for 55 minutes. Allow the brownies to cool for at least 15 minutes before digging in. Enjoy!

Store these brownies in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
