Anahata, also known as the fourth or heart chakra, is the energetic power center located at the heart level. This chakra is responsible for the feelings of joy, compassion, acceptance, empathy, unconditional love, and forgiveness. When it is open, one may feel a deeply harmonious connection with all that surrounds them. However, when it is out of alignment, one may feel a profoundly negative effect on their mood/mind, as blockages can create a sense of loneliness, defensiveness, or unworthiness, further leading to problematic issues such as co-dependency, inability to trust others, or manipulative behaviors. Imbalances may manifest not only in regards to mentality but also in the physical body as conditions affecting the heart and lungs, such as high or low blood pressure. Balancing this chakra is essential for the proper function of the energetic and spiritual body, as it bridges the gap between the lower and higher chakras, allowing one to transcend the limitations of the ego and connect with the higher self.
Not to be overly witchy woo-woo, but food plays such a vital impact on our daily function and it is so important to be mindful of what we are consuming. Food is the magic, as well as the medicine. Our body is the transient home of the soul and we must treat it well so it will treat the soul well in return. It’s that easy, and balancing the flow of energy in the physical and spiritual body through conscious effort and eating habits is totally possible
What is a chakra?
As conscious beings, we possess energy centers, or chakras, that help to absorb prana and life force from the cosmos. When these centers are blocked or out of alignment, energy is unable to flow freely, and the balance of our spiritual self is not able to reach its full potential. Therefore, purifying each chakra is essential to allow the full functionality of our highest selves and true potential.
We possess many energy centers throughout the body, but there are seven main ones. This post focuses on the chakra, Anahata. Click here if you want to learn more about balancing Anahata.
Anahata is associated with the color green, as this color symbolizes transformation and love energy. Eating foods that contain the color green may help to balance this chakra, therefore this smoothie is made from kiwi, honeydew melon, lime juice, cucumber, kale, and a banana. Other green foods that may help to balance this chakra include, but are not limited to avocados, pears, broccoli, spinach, matcha, basil, etc.
Anahata is also associated with the element of air. It represents the free-flowing love energy that is dispersed and connected to everything. Similar to air, love is within and around us, as infinite, free-flowing energy that integrates spiritual awareness with everything we encounter.
Eating light and airy foods may help to balance this chakra. Qualities of the air element include dry, subtle, and light, therefore this smoothie contains foods such as kale. Other foods that possess air element qualities that help to balance this chakra include but are not limited to broccoli, brussels sprouts, okra, edamame, cilantro, mint, etc. To learn more about foods with air element qualities according to Ayurveda, click here.
